All questions

Installation

What can I expect during installation of my new curbing?

Very little disturbance. Existing grass outside the curb line is not affected by our machines — only the strip where the curb is laid gets cut down and removed. Concrete is mixed on site with a specialized trailer and mortar mixer, then moved with a powered wheelbarrow on large turf tires that will not tear up your lawn. Your curb is extruded through a curb machine. There may be a few small leftovers beside the curb or in the grass, and those are easily picked up.

Must I be present when the curbing is installed?

No. You do not have to be present during installation. We do ask that you be available for a final walkthrough so we know you are happy with the finished product.

Are you limited to a design layout?

No. Concrete curbing suits almost any terrain, and the machine maneuvers easily. It curves, circles or runs straight lines, so the design possibilities are effectively endless.

Should I be concerned about the flowers and plants in my beds?

No. Our machines are compact — no wider than about two feet — so we will not damage your existing flower beds or other foliage.

Cost & discounts

What does it cost?

A job is estimated on the amount of footage being installed, the style you choose, removal of sod or debris, site preparation and ease of installation. Like any other construction project, it needs a real estimate for your particular yard. Killer Curbz provides free in-person or online estimates.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes. We offer discounts for military, law enforcement, first responders and seniors. Mention it when you call and we will apply it to your estimate.

Durability

Do you have any issues with cracking in your curbing?

Curbing is a concrete product, and a company that tells you their curbing never cracks is not telling you the truth. Ours crack very little because we use the correct ratios and techniques for mixing and finishing, and we set control joints roughly every 12 to 24 inches to relieve stress as the concrete cures — the same idea as the cuts in a sidewalk or driveway. A hairline at a joint means the joint is doing its job. Exactly which cracks are replaced under warranty is set out on the warranty & policy page.

How effective is concrete curbing at keeping grass out?

Extruded concrete curbing has a proven record of stopping sod entering landscape beds. Because it is one continuous piece there are no gaps for weeds to grow through, and sod cannot grow under it when the base is prepared correctly. Our molds are tall enough at the front to stop sod growing over, and tall enough at the back to hold your mulch or stone in.

Care & warranty

What maintenance is required for curbing?

The only maintenance is resealing. We recommend a reseal after the first year, then every 18 months after that.

When can I walk on it, or start yard work again?

Keep pets, children and objects away from the curbing for at least 48 hours. Sod laying, sprinkler work and landscaping can start 48 hours after installation. Take care with shovels, picks and wheelbarrows for a few days — hitting the curb hard before it is fully cured can damage it, and that is not covered under warranty.

What does the warranty cover?

Your curbing carries a 1-year warranty against all defects in materials and workmanship, replaced or repaired at no charge when the defect comes from our materials or our installation. Damage from third parties or heavy equipment running over the curb is not covered. Repairs are difficult to color-match exactly, so we will talk through whether a small crack is better left alone.

Options & design

What options do I have when it comes to decorative curbing?

Plenty. There are different sizes, styles and shapes. Curb can be colored, or colored and stamped, or multi-colored with different antique releases. It can also be carved to look like natural stone with our newer techniques.
